My 7 yo loves these books. Let me just say one thing. If your child(ren) don't like scary tv shows and/or movies, these books aren't for them. My daughter loves Supernatural, charmed, and some scary movies. She absolutely loves these books. Very well written, and easy to read. She is almost done with volume 1 "Ant Farm" and can't wait to start volume 2. The age requirement starts at 8 yo, so please use discretion when ordering for your child(den). My daughter has been into scary movies for 2 years now.

My child came home from school asking for a book one of his classmates had read for their monthly book report (quite surprising since it is the first time he has asked for a book in over 4 years). He explained it was a part of a new horror series his friend was reading, and he needed to read the first so he could catch up to his friend who was already finished with the first two.This caught me by surprise, but I knew I wanted to encourage this new found excitement and immediately found the first of the series on Amazon. In 6 days he had already finished, and is requesting books 2-5 as soon as possible.I certainly didn’t know book reports could bring new energy for reading into our home, but this first book by Screamin Calhoun has my child excited to read!

First one in the Tombstones series! This book is an awesome bridge for kids who are ready for scary chapter books. A lot of kids might identify with the main character, who is bullied, struggling in school, and needs some friends. There are some scary scenes, but the suspense builds toward the end. Probably best for kids 9-12.

My son asked for this book and I opened the package when it arrived in the mail. I was headed out the door to the dentist and decided to take it with me to check it out. Sure enough there was a delay at the dentist and I read almost half the book while waiting. It was great -- clever, and just the right amount of scary. I didn't give the book to my son that night so I could finish it. That was a first. Oh, and by the way, he love it too!

I was obsessed with the Goosebumps series as a child and reading Ant Farm brought me back to the good ‘ole days. If your child or teen is a fan of Goosebumps or Five Nights at Freddy’s, these books are absolutely perfect for them!

Screamin Calhoun has tapped into a niche that fills the gap between young Goosebumps readers and adults who read Stephen King books. Each title is better just as good as the first, Ant Farm. If your kids enjoy this level of haunted reading, you should buy every title in the series.

This is described as being age appropriate for adventurous third graders. I have an adventurous 3rd grader. He likes spooky and creepy stories. I thought I'd give this a try. I was unpleasantly surprised. He wasn't scared or anything. He was a little creeped out. But as a parent I can tell you that I deeply regret buying this and hope he forgets about what he read.First of all the main character does all sorts of bad things, like lie and wish people were dead. He hates his sisters dog. He often has a bad attitude. He has moments of moral wrestling where he tries to do the right thing. Two stars because of this but I'm reaching. I had to change the wording a few times because they were wildly in appropriate.Basically some characters come to very bad ends in this book. The description hints at this so I don't feel like I'm giving anything away. Trust me this is not what you want your third grader reading. It is described in gory detail and reads like a crime scene in the aftermath.I will say that it is written well enough. There were some minor things like changing from 3rd person to 1st. The character does display some empathy for his sister. But in between this he lies a lot.The writing kept my son interested. Two stars though for being marketed for eight year olds! Skip this one for the 12 and under crowd I'd say. It would be fine for older kids though.
